School of Media, Film and Music Associate Tutor policy [DOC]

The process for applying for AT teaching in MFM is:

  1. Current PhD students will be sent a note around April inviting AT applications. You complete an application form (available from the School Administrator). You will need to name your PhD supervisor and provide referees.
  2. You will then be interviewed by Kate Lacey and a relevant subject head (or, in their absence, the Director of Teaching and Learning). Kate will ask for confirmation from your supervisor that you are ready to undertake teaching. The interview will also determine which subject area(s) you would be ready to teach.
  3. If successful, you will be notified and added to the pool of ATs. Whether or not you will be allocated teaching, however, will depend on the needs of specific subject areas. These will vary from year to year, as different academic faculty take research leave and as numbers on optional courses can fluctuate. If allocated teaching, you will hear officially about your appointment from the School Administrator, although you may well be called to earlier informal discussions by the subject head. We would aim to inform Associate Tutors of the teaching allocation by late summer.
  4. You will then be issued with a contract by Human Resources, and if a new AT, provided with appropriate induction and training.
