Systems / Services Affected: Changes to Matlab licensing

Date / time: 31 July 2018, 10:00

Details of update:

If you use Matlab you may be affected by a change on 31 July. Whenever you run Matlab, the software connects to a license server to check the license. We will be decommissioning an old license server on 31 July, so please ensure that your version of Matlab isn’t attached to this server.

If you’re using a student computer, don’t worry. Your Matlab software will be updated automatically. If you’re using Matlab on any other computer, you may be affected by this change.

You can check the license server you are attached to by following these steps:

  1. Start Matlab
  2. Type ‘ver’ and press Enter in the Command Window
  3. At the top of the output check ‘Matlab License Number’, if it shows 51914 then the client is attached to the old license server

If you are using license number 51914, you’ll be affected when we decommission the license server.

If you have access to the Software Center on your computer (you can find it in the Start Menu) then you should use this to update Matlab. Otherwise, please contact the IT Service Desk and we will provide a new license file.

If you’re using any other license number, you won’t be affected on the 31 July.
