Using an iPhone for email
This guide decribes how to configure your iPhone to access your Sussex email securely from outside the University. If you are using a relatively recent iPhone model, there is an easy setup process included in our Guide to connecting your iPhone or iPod Touch to eduroam.
Setting up your iPhone or iPod Touch to read or send Sussex email
1. Undergraduate and Masters students
- In Settings, choose Mail, Contacts, Calendars
- tap Add new account and choose Other
- choose Add Mail Account and enter your name, Sussex email address (e.g. ano23@sussex.ac.uk) and password and tap Next
- make sure that IMAP is selected and for Incoming Mail Server, enter the Host Name mail.sussex.ac.uk
- type in your username (e.g. ano23) and password
- for Outgoing Mail Server, enter the Host Name smtp.sussex.ac.uk and put in your username (e.g. ano23) and password
- tap Next to finish
2. Staff and PhD students
- In Settings, choose Mail, Contacts, Calendars
- tap Add new account and choose Microsoft Exchange
- enter your email address and for the domain, type in ad_us
- type in your username and password and tap Next the Server name should be completed with exchange.sussex.ac.uk after a few seconds so tapNext to finish
- if you wish, you can also turn on Contacts and Calendars at the same time for access to your Outlook calendar and address book and tap Save
If you have existing contacts or calendar entries, you will be asked if you want to keep them. If so, there is a warning that you may have duplicate entries if the same contacts or calendars are in your Sussex accounts.
