Application Jukebox is a service that enables users to install and run a range of software on demand. Programs installed in this way can be configured, licensed and updated automatically without having to make changes to individual computers.
You can use Application Jukebox on PCs which are set up with the service. This includes PCs in the computer rooms in Richmond (3B3, 3B8, 3B9) where the service is currently used by staff and students in Engineering.
You can use a growing number of programs through Application Jukebox, including:
To use any of these applications:
1. Click on the Jukebox Applications icon on the desktop.

2. In the web page that opens, choose the application you want to use and click on the Launch button next to it.

It may take a short while for the program to open the first time it is used on a particular computer - the process will be much quicker the next time. You should also see a window like this one with a progress bar to show you what is happening:

When the program has installed, it will open automatically and you can start using it as normal.
The traditional method of using software is to install a program straight to a PC. However, this has disadvantages in a University with large numbers of computers. For example, it can take a long time to update the software on all of the PCs if there is a new release, or if the licence has changed. It's also easy to get into a position where some computers are using slightly different versions of a program.
With Application Jukebox, programs are installed and updated in real time whenever they are opened. This means that you will always get the latest version of the software, and that you will be using the same version as everyone else.
