Email settings


Email on your mobile device

To check your Sussex email or calendar on your mobile device, we recommend you use the Outlook mobile app.  You can find more information about this on this page.

The current email system

Webmail

  • Login with webmail
    You will automatically be directed to the new system when your account has been transferred.

Connect as an Exchange or Outlook account

If you want to use your email with a standalone program such as Outlook, Thunderbird or the email program on your phone:

  • choose to add a new Outlook account (or select Exchange if your client doesn't support Outlook accounts)
  • enter your email address and password
  • your device should find the settings automatically and add your account

Connect as an IMAP account

If your application doesn't support Exchange or Outlook accounts, please use these settings to connect using IMAP:

  • IMAP server name: outlook.office365.com
  • IMAP port: 993
  • IMAP encryption method: TLS
  • SMTP server name: smtp.office365.com
  • SMTP port: 587
  • SMTP encryption method: STARTTLS

The older staff email system

Staff and researchers are being moved to the email system above.

Some staff may still be on the older email system.  Details for this can be found below.

  • choose to add a new Exchange account
  • enter your email address and password
  • your device should find the settings automatically and add your account
  • If you are asked for additional settings, use the following:
    • Serverexchange.sussex.ac.uk

    •  Domain: ad_us

    •  Domain\username:  ad_us\username

    •  Password: Your IT Services password
