Most information is made available on the World Wide Web by specifying its structure using HTML - HyperText Markup Language. In some situations however this is the requirement to maintain the appearance of a printed document. This is the situation when the proprietary product, Adobe Acrobat, with its Portable Document Format (PDF) files can prove useful. An example is the University's past examination papers.
The Acrobat reader is freely available. It can be used on its own or integrated into a World Wide Web browser. All IT Services systems, PCs, iMac and Unix, have the Acrobat Reader installed. If you want a version for your own computer it is available from Adobe.
To create a PDF file on IT Services PCs, Macs or your home PC, see the information in FAQ 729 - How can I create a PDF file?
