How can I suspend deliveries to my email account from any Sussex mailing lists to which I belong?

You can do this in two ways: through email or through the web.  The email method is the quickest and simplest but only allows you to suspend one list at a time.  The web method allows you to suspend deliveries from all your lists if desired.   Both methods require you to authenticate yourself with your list subscriber's password (NOT your email account password).  If you don't know your password for a mailing list, see FAQ 1124 for details on how to obtain it.

EMAIL METHOD

  1. Start an email to listname-request@sussex.ac.uk (replace listname with the name of your mailing list). [Note: you must send this message from the account address with which you are subscribed to the mailing list.]
  2. Leave the Subject box empty.   In the message window, type these two commands, one per line:

    set authenticate=password
(replace password with your subscriber password for this list)
    set delivery off

(leave the rest of the message window empty)
  3. Now send the message.   This will suspend deliveries for this list only.
  4. To resume deliveries, send another message in the same way, but use the command

    set delivery on

    instead.

 WEB METHOD

  1. Go to the Sussex Mailing Lists home page.
  2. Scroll down to the second section, headed 'Quick links for list subscribers'.
  3. Enter the exact name of your mailing list  (don't type the @sussex.ac.uk part) in the text box, then click the GO button.  This should take you to a page with your mailing list's name in the page heading.
If you are shown a long page titled 'lists.sussex.ac.uk Mailing Lists' you have typed an incorrect mailing list name - go back to step 1.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and enter your subscriber's email address (this must exactly match that with which you are subscribed) in the box to the left of the Unsubscribe or edit options button.  Then click the button.  You will probably then be asked to enter your list subscriber's password.
  5. In the membership configuration page which appears, scroll down to the grey Mail delivery section, where you will see two buttons labelled Enabled and Disabled.  Click to select the Disabled button.   [Note: if you want to suspend deliveries from all your subscribed lists, click to select the Set globally box, below the Disabled button].
  6. Scroll to the bottom, and click the 'Submit Your Changes' button button.
  7. Scroll back to the top and click the Logout button.

To resume deliveries, repeat the above Web procedure, but click to select the Enable button instead (and select Set globally if necessary).
