Students’ Union

The University of Sussex Students’ Union provides networking opportunities through its clubs and societies, and also offers advice and support on academic issues. The team includes a full-time Postgraduate Education Officer, who is there to represent the interests of Masters and PGR students. You can find out more here.

The Network - Postgraduate and Research Students

The Network is an initiative for all postgraduate students, research and taught. Come and be part of the postgraduate community on campus. It's a safe informal space to network and connect with other postgraduates. Discuss, meet and share ideas or just come for a short breather from the lab! Join The Network on Facebook.

The Network Coffee Meetups are taking place virtually at present.

If you are interested in volunteering to help run The Network, please contact buddyscheme@sussexstudent.com

Buddy Scheme

The Sussex Buddy Scheme is not just for undergraduates. By signing up to be part of the Buddy Scheme you will be put in contact with a current postgraduate mentor to help alleviate any initial worries or fears you may have and generally helping you to settle into life at Sussex.

Visit the Buddy Scheme website. It only takes a minute to sign up to be part of the Sussex postgraduate community (make sure to select ‘Level of Study’ as one of your matching preferences).

Language Café
One World Sussex

You might also be interested in the Students’ Union Language Cafe, a monthly event where you can go along and practice a new language. It’s also a great way to meet other researchers. Whether you’re fluent or a beginner, everyone is welcome – the cafe is continuing virtually for now.

In this video, Jane Trueman from the Students’ Union talks about the Language Cafe and the Buddy Scheme:
