Informatics Resource Centre
Open to all members of Informatics and research centres associated with Informatics (COGS, CCNR, Sackler), the resource centre has extensive holdings of textbooks, research monographs, edited collections, computer manuals, videos, and CDs — most available for loan.
As well as computer science, artificial intelligence, bio-inspired computing, digital media technologies, and human-computer interaction, areas that come under the umbrella of cognitive science are also covered: linguistics, philosophy and psychology, for example.
Catalogue
To find out what is available, access the online catalogue, which allows precise searches, browsing within categories, and checking what you have out on loan yourself. You can even click to view details of the latest acquisition.
Research reports
The resource centre also publishes research reports for Informatics. Most of these are in the Cognitive Science Research Paper series, of which there are at present around 600, while there are around 120 in the Computer Science Report series. All recent reports are available online.
Dissertations and supplementary course reading
A further resource is the work of previous Masters students and final-year undergraduates. Copies of both Masters dissertations and final-year projects are kept for a couple of years for reference or loan. Students find these very useful, both in their subject matter and to see how they are structured. All prize-winning final-year projects are available online.
Teaching material is also available, in cases where a lecturer has collected a folder of supplementary reading.
Using the resource centre
Situated in Chichester 1 Room 008, near the Engineering and Informatics School Office, the resource centre is open during normal office working hours throughout the year. Ask at the Office to get access.
