The University has a responsibility to ensure the safe management and use of radiation. This includes ionising, optical, magnetic and electromagnetic fields.
Following a period of consultation with stakeholders and the Health and Safety Committee, the University has approved the new Radiation Safety Policy.
The policy applies to all staff, students, contractors, third parties and visitors in relation to work, research and education, and covers all regulated or hazardous usage of radiation on or off campus.
The policy covers:
- ionising radiation materials or generators
- lasers
- ultraviolet lamps
- high powered LEDs
- magnetic fields
- electromagnetic fields
