Strategic Career Planning
Thursday 23 April 10:00 until 13:00
Online
Speaker: Dr Natalie James, Research Coach
Part of the series: ECR Development Series
Amid the hectic and complex demands of an academic career, it's difficult to find space to stop and consider the big career questions such as, what does a ‘successful’ career mean to me? What opportunities should I act on (and which should I leave behind)? Am I making the most of my strengths? What are my longer-term career goals?
Taking a step-back from the everyday demands of work to examine the ‘bigger picture’ of your career values, strengths and goals, enables you to take a proactive approach to managing your career.
In this interactive workshop, you'll build a clearer picture of what’s important and meaningful to you in your career. With the support of a professional coach and other workshop participants, you'll identify your short, medium, and longer-term career goals, along with the key practical actions that will help you to achieve them.
We'll consider strategies to help with prioritisation of opportunities/activities, including how and when to say ‘no’.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the workshop, you'll have:
- A good awareness of your career motivations, values and strengths.
- Completed a career SWOT analysis.
- Articulated your long-term career ‘vision’ and indicators of ‘success’.
- Considered your short, medium and long-term career goals and planned the key actions you need to take towards them.
