Safe Management of Hazardous Locations and Hazardous Procedures Policy
The University has a responsibility to ensure the safe management of hazardous work locations and procedures under its control. These can include confined space locations such as service ducts, and manual handling procedures such as the lifting and carrying of bulky items.
Following a period of consultation with stakeholders and the Health and Safety Committee, the University has approved the new Safe Management of Hazardous Locations and Hazardous Procedures Policy.
The policy applies to all staff, students, contractors, third parties and visitors in relation to work, research and education, and covers all locations and activities under the University’s control, whether these are on or off campus.
The topics the policy covers include:
- confined spaces
- construction, design and management (as it relates to this policy)
- control of noise
- electricity
- lone working (as it relates to this policy)
- manual handling
- work at height
You can read the full policy on the Health, Safety and Wellbeing website. Specific supporting resources for the topics it covers are linked from the policy, or can be found on the Health, Safety and Wellbeing A-Z.
