New Sussex website and ways of working

The University’s New Web Estate project is set to give Sussex a brand-new website. Crucially, a new website will help us to strengthen and boost student recruitment in line with our Recovery and Rebuilding strategic plan and our Sussex 2035 Strategy.
To ensure our users get the very best experience of Sussex online, we need to adopt new governance and change our ways of working with website content.
Updating our web estate and website now is critically important to protect us from legal and reputational risks too.
What's next for the project?
- 10 February 2026 – changes to the way we manage content introduced
- Late February 2026 – updated course pages go live – timed to launch with the new UCAS cycle; the rest of the website will switch to the new brand design, but on the existing web platform for now
- Spring 2026 – The rest of the website’s content will move to the new platform and go live in phases, starting with sections about the University, high-level research content, business and collaborator content, and alumni information.
Website content creation and maintenance – process change
The way we create and manage content on our website is changing.
The University’s central Digital team will manage all our external-facing website content. This new way of working reflects the different type of website we are moving to, based on a connected content model.
From 10 February 2026, anyone wishing to request updates to external-facing content or create new external-facing content anywhere on our website will need to make a request to the Digital team via email to digital@sussex.ac.uk. The team will then work with you on your request.
Editing external-facing webpages directly will no longer be possible outside of the central Digital team.
The Digital team comprises an expert group of digital content and development specialists who will be well placed to support you with your request, ensuring our online content is the best it can be to showcase Sussex to the world.
See how the new process will work.
Staff-only, internal content
Editors of internal, staff-facing content will continue to maintain pages directly as plans for our new staff intranet develop.
Further steps
The Digital team is continuing to audit all current online content as we prepare to launch our new website and is working closely with colleagues across the University to do this. This work will continue in the coming months, covering public and student-facing content and information for prospective employees that needs to be externally available.
We know that colleagues are busy, so the team will work with existing faculty and PS contacts and give advance notice to support effective work planning. The new website is a priority for the University, and this engagement will be crucial to ensure its success.
