ID Cards: how to request new ID and access cards for staff and students

Last updated: Friday, 19 September 2025

From 18 September 2025 a new system is in place for staff to request new ID and access cards.
Any staff member or student requesting a new ID or SALTO access card will now receive a single card that will work as a combined ID, library and access card.
Please note that ID and access cards are no longer being printed in the Hastings building.
Staff guidance
All staff members who currently have separate ID and access cards can continue to use them as normal. If one or both of your cards is lost or damaged, you will be provided with one of the new, dual-purpose cards.
To order a new ID and access card, follow the instructions on the Portering and Logistics webpage.
Cards can be collected from the Access Cards Drop-in Helpdesk in Jubilee, Room G34 (Ground Floor, next to the main entrance), the day after ordering. Cards will not be sent out via internal post.
Opening hours:
- Weekdays 8am-10am and 1pm-3pm.
Student guidance
All first-year students will receive one of the new multi-purpose cards, which will serve as their ID card, Library card and access card for academic facilities. These cards can be collected by students, with proof of ID, from the Student Centre Helpdesk.
Returning students can continue to use their separate ID and access cards as normal.
Requesting student access to academic facilities
If a student requires access to academic facilities for their studies, the School Office must submit an Authorisation Form (available on the Portering and Logistics webpage) to accesscards@sussex.ac.uk.
Once submitted, students must visit the Access Cards Drop-in Helpdesk in Jubilee Building Room G34 to have their card programmed.
Opening hours:
- Weekdays 8am-10am and 1pm-3pm
Please note that, once programmed, additional access can be added remotely without the student having to visit the Helpdesk.
