Colin Shipp, Executive Director of Human Resources, wrote to all staff on 16 September. Read his message in full:
Dear Colleague,
You are required to complete a number of mandatory online training courses which help support inclusion, effective teaching, learning and research and also keep you, and all our staff and students, safe.
Modules vary in length, with some taking only 10-15 minutes.
New mandatory training
As previously highlighted, given the new Office for Students condition of registration, condition E6, mandatory training on harassment and sexual misconduct for staff must be completed by Friday 19 September. Please complete the training on LearnUpon if you have not already done so.
This month (September 2025), the University has introduced further mandatory training modules, to be completed no later than the end of November:
- Cyber Security: Raising awareness of the variety of online threats that Sussex faces each day such as phishing scams, ransomware attacks and human engineering, this training complements the existing voluntary ‘bite sized’ awareness campaigns issued each month.
- Disability Awareness: Strengthening staff understanding of disability inclusion and legal responsibilities, this course provides guidance on removing barriers, making reasonable adjustments (including recent legal developments), and creating a more accessible and inclusive University environment.
Complete the training on LearnUpon.
Further information
You will receive automated reminder emails from LearnUpon to flag any outstanding mandatory training, including refresher training needed for some modules. Additional role-specific mandatory training may also be required for certain staff. Your manager will discuss your training completion as part of your Achievement and Development Review (ADR).
You can find out more about mandatory training on the Staff Hub.
Thank you,
Colin
