FinTech Coffee Connect event brings graduates and current students together to discuss career opportunities

Dr Malgorzata Sulimierska - Senior Lecturer in Banking and FinTech, held a ‘Fintech, Coffee and Connect’ event for current students earlier this month at the Business School.
She invited a panel of four guest speakers to share their experience of gaining employment after graduating. Towards the end of the event an informative Q&A session provided students with an opportunity to ask the speakers for advice on any challenges they would face when looking for employment, as well as how to secure a placement during their time at Sussex.
The panel, some of whom were attending via video link, included three graduates of the BSc Finance and Technology (FinTech).
Claudia Macfarlane graduated this year and now works as a Systems and Reporting Analyst for Choice Support. Claudia shared her experience securing a place in a graduate scheme after completing her course.
Motaz Sirriyeh works as a Business Analyst at Reflect – Reflect is the first Neobank (digital only bank) in Jordan and it’s powered by Arab Bank. He discussed how his summer internship as a Digital Analyst at Bank al Ethihad in Jordan progressed onto employment after he graduated, and how having coding and programming experience from his course has helped him understand his current role.
Daniel Peacock is now working as a Data Analyst in Digital Intelligence Exploitation for FCA (Financial Conduct Authority). He discussed successful techniques for getting into the FCA graduate programme.
Also on the panel was Alon Sammy a current final year Finance undergraduate student, completed his placement at UBS working within the trading and sales team and is now a Brand Ambassador for JP. Morgan. He discussed collaboration opportunities for students in Fintech with JP. Morgan, giving advice on their unique interview and selection process.
The session was a great success and left students feeling motivated and inspired.
