University elections information: May 2022

The Governance Team will be running elections for School representatives, and a Professional Services representative of Senate and an Academic representative of Council this semester.
Senate is responsible for the academic standards and the direction and regulation of academic matters of the University. This encompasses teaching, examining and research as well as oversight of quality assurance and standards of the education provided by the University.
Council is the senior governing body of the University. Council’s role is to act in the best interests of the University as a whole, ensuring it strategically delivers its mission to high standards with the necessary financial stability and long-term sustainability.
Census day: 3 May - this is the day HR run a report of current eligible staff
Election emails: 6 May - this is when we will email PS Staff and all staff eligible to vote within a particular school if an election is required.
Deadline for nominations: 13 May
The Governance Team are holding webinars about the role of Senate and Council; these are open to all staff eligible for nomination. Please email the team if you would like to attend one of these sessions: 4 May at 10am, 6 May at 10am and the 12 May at 12pm.
Voting will take place between 30 May – 10 June, with results due w/c 13 June.

Eligibility
Provision is made for two members of the academic staff to be elected to Senate by and from the academic staff of each School of Studies.
In accordance with the relevant Regulations, the following members of the School’s academic staff are eligible to nominate, be nominated and vote in this election:-
- those on Teaching or Research Faculty Conditions of Service who (a) hold University appointments on the census date and (b) whose continuous service with the University will be at least one year by the end of the contract which is in force on the census date.
School staff who are eligible to vote will be sent information about the process and dates.
PS Staff eligibility:
The following shall be eligible to nominate, be nominated and vote in the elections for Professional Services staff: Operational Support Staff (OS); Professional Services Staff: Professional and Management (PM); Professional Services Staff: Support (PS); Technical Staff: Management (TM); Technical Staff: Support (TX); Operational Craft Staff (OX) who (a) hold University appointments on the census date and (b) whose continuous service with the University will be at least one year by the end of the contract which is in force on the census date.
We work with the Electoral Reform Society to manage voting externally and confidentially.
