Current second year students network with returning placement students at the BMEc Placement Awards 2017
The School of Business, Management and Economics (BMEc) celebrated the return of its 2016/2017 placement students with an awards evening on 2 October, giving past and future placement employees the chance to network and exchange tips and successes.
Students, staff and placement employers took the opportunity to mingle while dining on canapés prepared by chefs from the Students’ Union. Current second year students were also able to network with the returning placement students, allowing them an insight into the application process and what their role entailed.
Head of School Professor Steve McGuire and Academic Coordinator for Placements, Rene Moolenaar, gave speeches highlighting the achievements of attendees, followed by an awards presentation.
Awards were presented to the top three placement students who had created a poster as part of the assessment for the placement year.
- Chloe Workman took first prize, a £100 voucher for the Salt Room, for her placement poster with New Look.
- Tara Haden, completing a placement within BMEc, came second with her poster.
- Shannon Savage came third with her poster for her placement year at EY Belfast.
Tara Haden, final year Business and Management student said:
“I had a wonderful time at the awards. It was great to have our coursework appreciated and be a topic of discussion on the night.
“I loved catching up with all the students and staff and sharing our intriguing work stories! I hope the second year students found it useful and have lots of ideas of where to apply. Oscars have nothing on the BMEc placement awards!”
Shannon Savage, final year Economics student said:
"The placement awards were a great opportunity to network with other students returning to university and to also to talk to second year students and give them advice about placements. Overall it was a fantastic evening, the food and drink was excellent and the prizes on offer were fantastic!
“The placement team in BMEc are incredible, they offer you so much support not only when applying for and when on placement, but also on returning to university. Their advice and support is invaluable."
