Tectomers: from 2D Nanocarriers to New Composites and Coatings
Wednesday 1 February 15:00 until 16:30
Chichester 3, 3R241
Speaker: Dr Edgar Muñoz
Part of the series: Materials Physics seminars
The first in a series of Materials Physics seminars will be given by Dr Edgar Muñoz from Instituto de Carboquímica in Zaragoza, Spain. He will discuss current research on the structures formed by self-assembly of oligoglycine peptides and their applications in nanoscience.
Dr Muñoz earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Instituto de Carboquimica in 2000. His doctoral thesis, entitled “Carbon Nanotubes: Production by Laser Ablation and Characterization” was prepared under the supervision of Dr M. Teresa Martínez (Instituto de Carboquímica, CSIC) and Dr German de la Fuente (ICMA, CSIC-Universidad de Zaragoza).
In October 2000 he joined Ray Baughman’s group at Honeywell International, and joined the UTD NanoTech Institute in September 2001 where he worked on the preparation and optimization of carbon nanotube sheets and fibers for electromechanical actuator applications. Additionally, he was a founding member of the “nano-bio” effort at UTD.
After returning to the Instituto de Carboquímica in 2003, his primary research interests are in the fabrication of multifunctional nanocomposite materials, chemical functionalization of carbon nanotubes, sensors, biosensors, production of novel nanostructured materials, and laser processing of materials.
