The Placements Team in the School of Business, Management and Economics (BMEc) have been shortlisted for a National Undergraduate Employability (NUE) award for ‘Most Improved Commitment to Employability'.
The prestigious NUE awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of universities, students and employers in the field of undergraduate work experience. The award scheme received more than 400 nominations for 15 separate award categories, and the nominations were shortlisted by a panel of industry experts.
The Placements Team – consisting of Ian Pierson (Placements Officer), Joanna Budd, Marni McArthur (Placements Co-ordinators), Frank Brouwer and John Bateman (Lead Placement Tutors) - have made the final shortlist in recognition of the growth and success of the placement programme since it began in 2013, with more than 110 BMEc students securing a professional placement year during this period with companies as diverse as Microsoft, PwC and Rolls Royce.
This recognition is testament to the team's hard work in supporting BMEc students, as well as proof of the support provided by
- the Careers and Employability Centre for the array of opportunities and support they provide for placement students, including the eight-week Placement Preparation Programme, their advice and guidance services, and careers events, and
- the School's Placement Tutors, who have played a huge part in supporting students while on their placement year.
The final decisions for the 15 award categories will be made by an independent judging panel, with the winners to be announced at an awards ceremony at ETC Venues in London on 6 February 2015.
