A Sussex student who spent this spring studying in Mexico has won a University competition with his photographs of the trip.
Michael Leaver, a final-year undergraduate in International Relations and Sociology, has won this year’s Study Abroad Photo Competition.
His photos document the term that he spent at the Technologico de Monterrey in Mexico City. They include a dramatic panorama of the city Guanajuato, Mayan ruins and a colourful Mexican market.
The three runners up were:
- Elvire Francois - a final-year undergraduate in International Relations, who studied in Taiwan
- Stuart Young - a final-year undergraduate in American Studies, who studied in Chicago, USA
- Declan Rowlands – a final-year undergraduate in Chemistry with a sandwich year, who worked on placement in the Netherlands

Some 250 Sussex students spend some time abroad each year on exchange programmes with partner universities in Asia, Australia, Europe and North, Central and South America. The exchange agreements in place ensure that students can transfer credit and grades from their period abroad to their Sussex degree.
