A free breathing workshop is being offered to Sussex staff during National Stress Awareness Day next week (Wednesday 6 November).
The University is taking part in the national initiative, which aims to make people more aware of the various ways of managing stress, for the third year running.
There will be a two-hour workshop (maximum 20 people) on the Buteyko breathing method between 10am and 12 noon at the Sport Centre Dance Studio.
Staff on the workshop can find out why practitioners claim that retraining breathing achieves optimal health and wellbeing, eradicates reliance on symptomatic medications, and reverses more than 200 chronic symptoms. Staff on the workshop will measure their breathing, practise a reduced breathing exercise, and conclude with a question-and-answer session.
Places are offered on a first-come-first-served basis and must be booked in advance. Contact Sam Fuller on ext. 8229 or s.n.fuller@sussex.ac.uk.
More information can be found on the Sussexsport website.
A number of free massages will also be enjoyed by staff on 6 November. These are now all fully booked.
The initiative is a collaboration between Sussexsport and the Staff Development Unit.
As far as is reasonably practicable, the University will support managers to allow staff time off to attend the activities on offer.
