Are Sussex students complete trivia boffins? Do their lecturers know more about Beyoncé than Barthes?

The next episode, on Monday (2 April), of BBC Radio 4’s comedy quiz show ‘The 3^rd Degree’ is coming from the University of Sussex.

Join host Steve Punt (‘The Now Show’, ‘Horrible Histories’) at 3pm as three Sussex undergraduates pit themselves against their tutors.

The Sussex students taking part are:

• Bree Allegretti (Drama);
• Izzi Howell (French and Spanish); and
• Jack Kelly (Philosophy and Cognitive Science)

And, going head-to-head with them, their tutors:

• Dr David Barnett, Reader in Drama in the School of English;
• Dr Ron Chrisley, Reader in Philosophy in the School of Engineering and Informatics; and
• Dr Joanna Stephens, an Associate Tutor in French Literature and European History and Culture.

The rounds vary between specialist subjects and general knowledge, quick-fire bell-and-buzzer rounds and the 'Highbrow & Lowbrow' round devised to test not only the students' knowledge of current affairs, history, languages and science, but also the lecturers’ awareness of television, film and pop music.

The 30-minute-long show was recorded in front of a live of audience of Sussex students in the Meeting House on campus in December 2011.
