Mobil 1 Team Sussex, the Formula Student team for the University of Sussex, are to be sponsored by engineering company Ricardo UK in this year’s competition.

Ricardo’s sponsorship includes a financial contribution and access to some test facilities in its Shoreham-by-Sea site. This makes Ricardo one of the team’s largest sponsors.

The objective of the Formula Student competition is for teams to build a race car to compete in a range of events at Silverstone racing circuit from 12 to 15 July. 

Mobil 1 Team Sussex are competing with one of the smallest budgets in the competition, so the team are excited by this turn of events as it is a great boost that allows them to move further with their objectives. 

The team have already allocated the sponsorship money to the purchase of lightweight wheels that will make the car more competitive in the competition, as minimizing weight is a key aspect of race-car engineering.

Currently the team is in the manufacture stage, with some of the main components of the car such as the chassis being fabricated. 

The team is on a tight schedule to get the car designed, built and tested before the launch event on 13 June.
