When students next week choose their option modules and electives for 2013/14, they will be the first cohort to do so entirely online on Sussex Direct.
This cohort selected their first-year modules last year, as an online pilot, before starting University in September.
The pilot was so successful and well received by students that the University now plans to roll it out online through Sussex Direct for first- and second-year students in advance of 2013/14.
The system will open to allow students to preview their choices on Friday 12 April and will allow real-time module selection on Monday morning (15 April) until 5pm on Thursday 18 April. First-year undergraduates will be able to log in to Sussex Direct and make their choices using an online form.
The number of places left on each elective and option module will be displayed and can be refreshed at the push of a button.
For those who are following an ‘approved pathway’, the correct ‘next’ modules will be self-evident in the online selection list, and sufficient places have been reserved for all students to remain on their chosen pathways.
Approved pathways allow students to choose a series of electives that together make up a coherent strand of learning. Students successfully completing a named pathway will have this recorded on their degree certificate.
Schools are arranging local events at the end of this week (on or around 11-12 April) for students to talk about their option choices. Students should contact their School Office about the details of these.
There is also an online Digital Electives Fair on Friday (12 April) giving details of the elective modules on offer for the forthcoming year.
Prior to the pilot, students have had to fill in paper forms.
