Guidance on Mentoring

These guidelines are intended to assist those taking on the role of mentor, and new members of Faculty, who should also be provided with these guidelines. The guidelines have been drawn up using comments from people with experience on both sides of the mentoring process and combine what is considered as best practice outside the University with consideration for the particular circumstances of work within it. Mentors should also make themselves familiar with the University's policies and procedures concerning probation, promotion and career progress, details of which available from the Human Resources Division and any local arrangements within Schools. These notes are accompanied by some questions commonly asked by new members of teaching faculty. For advice and further information please contact sdu@sussex.ac.uk.
