Car parking and public transport for Amex stadium

Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club have been playing at the American Express Community Stadium at Falmer, on a site next to the University of Brighton, since the start of the 2011-12 season.

On 30 match days per year the club use some parking spaces in five designated car parks on the University of Sussex campus, in addition to spaces elsewhere in Brighton. The parking arrangements are tightly managed and controlled by the football club in partnership with the University.

The infrastructure associated with the stadium includes two items of significant benefit to the University:

  • a campus access road along the southern edge of Stanmer Park, which opened in December 2010, giving University staff and students a much-needed second exit; and
  • a wheelchair accessible footbridge at Falmer Station which completely transformed access by campus users to trains arriving from Lewes and going to Brighton.

The development also involved a number of other modifications to road and pedestrian pathways in the area.

Additional measures include a footbridge over the railway line, and waiting areas, so that stewards can control the flow of fans on to Falmer railway station after a match.
