Upcoming rail strikes in May

A series of rail strikes are planned this month, taking place from Monday 6 to Saturday 11 May inclusive, as follows. This will affect Great Northern, Southern Rail, Thameslink and Gatwick Express services, therefore affecting rail services to Falmer station and the University.

  • Tuesday 7 May: full strike day
  • Monday 6 to Saturday 11 May: overtime ban with reduced services

Please make sure you check your train journey in advance during this period, especially during the strike day. Journey planners are now showing updated journeys for Monday 6 through to Wednesday 8 May.

Journeys on Thursday 9, Friday 10 and Saturday 11 May will appear in journey planners from this Friday 3 May.

New bus route to Eastbourne coming soon

From Monday 13 May, Stagecoach will launch the new 701 bus route running between Eastbourne and Brighton via Seaford and Newhaven.

The 701 route will travel close to Falmer campus, as well as the University of Brighton's Falmer and Lewes Road campuses. A full route map will be available shortly.

Discounted student bus tickets are available at locations across the UK, including Sussex.

Car parks, roads, and closures

An Amex Stadium football match (Albion v Aston Villa) is booked for Sunday 5 May, kickoff at 2pm. Please be aware that campus parking and the nearby A27 will be busier than usual during this event.

Lewes Court Block 1 will be unavailable for parking on Thursday 9 May, to undertake line marking renewal.
