Campus masterplan

As the University looks forward to continued growth to 2018 and the campus sits alongside the South Downs National Park, the development of the Falmer grounds and buildings is critical.

The University originally created a campus masterplan in 2004 to provide a planning framework to support our building and regeneration programme, in line with our academic mission and plans for strategic development.

Much of that initial development has been delivered – from Fulton, our new teaching building, to the home of our growing school of Business, Management and Economics in Jubilee, and Northfield, a major 1,100-bed residence.

For this next phase of development in support of our Making the Future strategy 2013-18, the masterplan was revised to ensure that the campus could accommodate our growing activity as we aim to expand to 18,000 students.

While the revised masterplan looks to the future, it also reinforces architect Sir Basil Spence’s original design principles, which make the campus so special.

The Planning Inspectorate granted permission for the masterplan in summer 2015, and the University is now in the process of preparing detailed applications for different buildings and developments.
