School of Media, Film and Music

Research

Our academic faculty are internationally recognized for their research in diverse fields. Researchers' work explores television, radio, digital and new media, media practice, media and memory, media futures, media and everyday life, the question of citizenship and the public sphere, and work on critical media theory. Work in film includes: Hollywood, European, Latin American and other national film traditions plus work on genre and form, and film theory. We have a strong tradition of media practice research in film, digital media and photography, and number amongst our music faculty renowned composers and musicologists. We host three Research Centres and are involved in many other collaborations across the university, nationally and internationally. We have 90 doctoral students from all around the world who contribute greatly to our strong research culture. We run a number of MA courses covering all our fields of activity. We run regular research in progress seminars, one-off events, international conferences, give keynotes, and contribute to top journals. We welcome collaboration of all kinds.
