We're investigating a problem with part of the file storage system that supports personal file space (N: drives) and shared group files (G: drives). All files and folders are available as normal but the service is operating without the usual levels of resilience due to a fault with one of the main file servers.
We're working with the manufacturers to restore it as soon as possible and will do our best to ensure there is no disruption for staff and students.
UPDATE: 30 Jul 2015 - 5:47am
This morning we will be completing the final steps to restore file systems to normal operation following a hardware fault earlier in the year.
File systems have been available and working normally since the fault occurred but have been operating without the normal levels of resilience. Today's work will address this - the faulty hardware has now been replaced and a series of data integrity checks carried out and this morning we will restore the service to its normal operating pattern.
There will be some disruption during the work today. Staff and students may be unable to save files or gain access to data stored in central locations such as their person file space (N: drives) and group files (G: drives). But we'll do our best to keep any effects to a minimum.
The work will start at 5.45am and is expected to be completed before 8.00am.
UPDATE: 30 Jul 2015 - 6:58am
This morning's work has been postponed until a later date and so no further disruption is expected this morning.
One of the preparatory routines to copy data between systems did not complete in time for the start of the maintenance work and so we will reschedule in the next few days.
UPDATE: 30 Jul 2015 - 5:35pm
Work on the central file systems has been rescheduled for Friday morning, 31 July. We will start at 5.45am and expect to finish before 8.00am.
There will be some disruption during this period. Staff and students may be unable to save files or gain access to data stored in central locations such as their person file space (N: drives) and group files (G: drives). But we'll do our best to keep any effects to a minimum.

This morning's maintenance work was completed on schedule before 8.00am and all file systems are operating normally with full resilience.
We were able to maintain access to most systems throughout the work although some file locations were switched to read-only mode for a short time.
