Stuart KeirWe heard this week the sad news that our friend and colleague Stuart Keir died suddenly on 9 November.

Stuart took early retirement from IT Services in June after over 20 years working on the campus. During that time, he transformed the University's backup and archiving facilities, developing a variety of inherited systems into a modern, 24x7 operation.

Before joining Sussex, Stuart worked for many years at the Royal Greenwich Observatory in Herstmonceux and the University benefited enormously from his extensive knowledge of computing, especially with regard to data storage systems and their development.

Well-travelled, multilingual, convivial, we will remember Stuart as much for his warmth and humour as his unfailing professionalism.

Stuart's funeral service will be held at Woodvale South Chapel, Lewes Road, Brighton on Wednesday 3 December at 1:30pm, followed by interment at Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Woodingdean.
