Posting ID cards online

New students are collecting their Library cards this week and in some cases have been posting photos of their new IDs to Instagram and other online services. However, if the barcode and reference numbers are sufficiently clear, the pictures could easily be used by hackers to gain access to University services.
You should always be careful about publicly sharing information such as the details on your ID card. Make sure you take sensible precautions to prevent unauthorised individuals from gaining entry to University buildings and borrowing Library items on your account.
