IT improvements underway

This term's major project to upgrade the IT facilities available for students is well underway.

20 new all-in-one PCs in the Library

In the Library, 20 new all-in-one PCs have been installed in the ground floor computing area. A further fifteen PCs on the first floor have been replaced with 16 all-in-one PCs. These new models have large screens but take up much less deskspace. They are already proving popular with Library users.

There are also 11 new iMacs on the first floor of the Library. The 8 Macs introduced last year have been in very high demand so we've increased the number of computers available. Including the 11 in Shawcross, there are now 30 iMacs available for general use.

In the last few days, we've upgraded 15 PCs in the Freeman centre. IT Services took over the management of this computing cluster earlier in the term and we've been able to install up-to-date PCs with the latest software.

Last month, a £1.3 million fund was announced to provide more computers and wifi equipment. The aim of the project is to improve the experience of students when using technology at Sussex.
