Changes to Windows Settings

Since the introduction of Windows 7 at Sussex, users have reported problems with some programs and functions, such as playing Flash videos on certain websites. These problems are due to the location in which personal settings are held.

As a temporary fix for these issues, we changed the location for some user preferences, storing them in a folder called WindowsSettings in each user's home directory.

We are now establishing this as a permanent resolution by moving all settings for a given user into the same location.

Once the update is complete, all of your windows settings will be held together in a folder called WindowsSettings in your home directory. This will make it easier to fix problems that can arise with user settings and reduce the risk of similar issues in the future.

If you use Windows PCs at Sussex, your settings will currently be saved in several different folders so you will need to be logged out so we can transfer the data into the single new location. If you aren't able to do this on Thursday, you should logout and then back in as soon as you can, so that you don't lose your personal settings.
