We have a new Special Collections Website
Our new website was launched in 2010, and allows searching across all our collections and view records for all our items. You can access the site at the following address: http://specialcollections.lib.sussex.ac.uk/.
These pages are available for reference and are no longer being updated. They may contain out of date information.
We offer a restricted copying service for materials held within Special Collections. Copies are provided strictly for use in private research, subject to copyright permissions. You may not make further copies of the material. For further information on reproducing material for publication, please see Publication.
Photocopying
We are able to offer a limited photocopying service for copying items within our collections. This service is subject to copyright limitations.
Some items are not suitable for photocopying due to their fragility. Please consult the Duty Supervisor as to whether your items can be copied.
Ordering in person
Photocopies are made by a member of staff and are normally available
for collection within 10 working days. They can be posted onto you
at an additional cost. Please ask staff for details on how to make your
order.
Charges:
Black & White: 40p (+VAT if applicable) per sheet
Laser colour copy: 75p (+VAT if applicable) per sheet
Post & Packing
(UK/Europe): 40p
Remote requests
We can accept orders via email, post and telephone
subject to a minimum, non-refundable charge. Please contact
staff for details.
Scanning/photography
Digital cameras may be used, under supervision. Staff can advise you on how best to go about taking your photos.
Charges:
£2 per 10 images up to 50 images
For high quality images, suitable for publication, material can be scanned by the University’s Print Unit. In some cases such as Rare Books, scanning may not be appropriate, therefore the images will be taken by the University’s Photographic Unit. Separate charges will be invoiced for both these services by both the University’s Units and Special Collections.

30 (+ VAT if applicable) per hour, or part hour staff administration
cost, payable to Special Collections.
Scanning: £5 per image + £2.50 CD Rom
Photographs: £12.50 per half hour + £2.50 CD Rom
Images may require retouching by the Print Unit to bring them up
to standard for publication. This is an extra charge of £12.50 per
half hour, a quotation can be given on request.
