Updates to the last Windows 7 PCs, Friday 17 January

Posted: Mon 13 Jan 2020, 12:52pm.

If you use a Sussex PC that is still running Windows 7, you will be updated to Windows 10 very soon. The update will be done remotely, so you will come in one day and simply find that your PC has updated. Most computers will be updated on Friday evening or over the weekend.

You need to do two things to allow your computer to update:

  1. Do not shut down your PC when you go home. This is our general advice anyway; you should never shut down your PC at the end of the day.
  2. Remember to log out. Your computer can only update to Windows 10 if you log out.

You can find more advice and information on the ITS website.

Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 7 very shortly, so it’s important that we move the remaining computers to the more modern Windows 10.

Eventually, we will need to disconnect any remaining Windows 7 PCs from the network in order to maintain security, so please help us to update your computer as seamlessly as possible.
