Service Improvement: Security on your Sussex Apple or Linux device, 16 October 2018, 09:00

Posted: Fri 12 Oct 2018, 9:12am.

Description of work:
If you have a desktop, laptop or mobile device which was provided by IT Services then we do our best to help you manage the security of your device. We provide a range of services that regularly check-in with your device to ensure that it’s kept safe and updated.

Until now, Apple and Linux devices that don’t connect to the campus network have been missed from these security and management services. For example, if you have an IT Services Macbook or iMac that you use at home and never bring onto campus, you may have missed out on important updates.

This change will mean that Apple or Linux devices that you keep at home will be properly managed by IT Services. This is an invisible process that won’t interrupt your work.

Is this work likely to cause disruption?
No disruption is expected

What will you notice once this work is complete?
This service runs invisibly. The only thing you may notice is that updates happen more often.

If you use a 4g dongle to connect to the internet, we advise that you keep an eye on your data usage, as updates may happen in the background without you noticing.

Why are we doing this work?
To ensure the security of all IT Services devices.
