VPN set up guide for new users

VPN set up guide for new users

You will need;

• Already signed into Okta once before – Instructions here
• Set up your multi-factor authentication – Instructions here
• Computer connected to the internet
• Smartphone


1. In your computer web browser, enter the following URL: https://bond.sussex.ac.uk/

2. Enter your short-form IT login details and click ‘LOG IN’ (e.g. ano123 and your usual IT password).

3. Download the applicable client;

a. Windows - ‘Download Windows 64 bit GlobalProtect agent’.

b. Mac - 'Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect agent' 

4. The file will begin downloading automatically.

5. Double-click the downloaded file to open the GlobalProtect Setup Wizard.

6. Keep clicking ‘Next’ until the file has installed.

7. Click ‘Close’.

8. Make sure you have the latest anti-virus protection;

a. Windows - Click the small circumflex arrow in the bottom-right corner of the screen to open your task manager. Click the shield icon to open your windows security settings.

b. Mac - Open your system preferences.

9. Open GlobalProtect by clicking the globe icon in the bottom-right corner of your screen.

a. Windows - You may need to click the small circumflex arrow to show hidden icons.

b. Mac - Open your Launchpad or your applications list in the Finder.

10. Under ‘enter your portal address’ type – bond.sussex.ac.uk – and click ‘Connect’.

11. Once connected you will have to enter your Sussex ID and email password.

a. E.g. ‘ano123’ but not ‘ano123@sussex.ac.uk’.

12. Once signed in, select a VPN from the drop-down box next to Gateway.

13. The Okta sign in page will pop up requesting you to sign in.

a. Sign in using your Sussex IT credentials and password (e.g. ano123@sussex.ac.uk)

14. Okta will prompt you to authorise using your multi-factor authenticator app on your smartphone. Click either ‘Send Push’ or ‘enter code’ (app dependant).

a. Open the corresponding app on your phone and confirm the push notification or copy the code into the Okta page on your computer.

b. If you have not set up your MFA please follow the instructions on this page.

15. Once logged in, click the 'Click here' link on the Authorisation Complete page open in your browser.

a. If a 'This site is trying to open...' pop-up appears, click 'Open'.

16. You have now successfully connected to the VPN.
