How do I disable the Advanced Security feature in Microsoft Outlook?

The details on this page apply to users of Outlook on Admin Remote, a virtual desktop service for staff in central administration divisions.

Microsoft Outlook in Admin Remote comes with an add-in for Raiser's Edge. A side effect of installing this add-in was that it also enabled an Advanced Security feature which has caused issues for some users of Outlook, resulting in delays and usability issues.

If you have encountered problems when using Outlook in Admin Remote, you can turn off the Advanced Security feature:

  1. Log into Admin Remote.
  2. Open Microsoft Outlook (Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Outlook or any shortcut you may use).
  3. Choose File, then Options and then Add-ins.
  4. In the Add-ins window, find Advanced Security and select it.
  5. Ensure COM Add-ins is selected in the Manage drop down at the bottom of page (adjacent to the Go button).
  6. Click Go.
  7. Untick the Advanced Security add-in under the add-ins available section.
  8. Once unticked select OK button.
  9. Finally, restart Outlook.

If you encounter further issues please raise a support request with the Staff Desktop Support team.
