The Network Replacement Programme (NRP) team successfully switched on the new network in the Student Centre on Tuesday 25 August – the third building to be connected recently, after Shawcross Building and the new Health and Wellbeing Centre in May this year.

Following the upgrade and testing, staff and students will now benefit from a more robust and seamless Wi-Fi experience throughout the Student Centre.

Supporting our strategy goals

Once completed, the NRP upgrades will help us lay the foundations for future success by providing faster, more reliable and energy efficient connectivity across campus. This supports our Sussex 2035 strategic priorities: 

• Digital and data futures – improving connectivity and creating a better digital experience for staff, students and visitors
• Environmental sustainability – through more energy efficient infrastructure that helps reduce our campus environmental impact
• Human flourishing – enhancing everyday digital access so our community can learn, teach and work more effectively.

How will the rollout happen?

The new network is being gradually rolled out in phases across eight building groups. We are planning to finish building group 1 this year, with building group 2 to follow in the new year. This means that we can ensure a consistent standard across buildings while minimising disruption.

The next building to be upgraded will be Hastings building on Thursday 10 September – the NRP team will continue to keep colleagues updated.
