"Every year in July, the Genome Damage and Stability Centre provides local sixth form college students interested in STEM careers with an opportunity to look behind the scenes in our research laboratories. Guided by our scientists, they gain first-hand experience of investigating how cells repair DNA damage to avoid diseases such as cancer and neurodegeneration. Dr Raquel Carreira Rodriguez in Professor Evi Soutoglou’s said:

Last week, our lab welcomed a fantastic group of college students for an immersive, hands-on work experience at the GDSC. I was incredibly impressed by their proactive attitude and deep interest in our research. Engaging with the next generation of scientists is a profoundly rewarding part of being a postdoc, and it highlights the immense value of mentorship in shaping the future of STEM.

Students gave positive feedback from their experience: "I really loved the work experience because we did not just watch experiments, we actually did the experiments! We really got a week in the life of a scientist working in a lab"
