On Friday 6 March, Sussex University Netball Club hosted their annual charity tournament, this year in support of RISE, a Sussex-based charity supporting people affected by domestic abuse and violence
175 students took part in the tournament, with 22 different teams made up from members of different University sports clubs.
After a close contest, pre-tournament favourites Sussex Men’s Basketball took home the title for the third year in a row. Sussex Golf were impressive runners up, and the best dressed award went to Sussex Tennis.
Collaboration on campus
The event was a great example of a student-led intitative, supported by staff for the benefit of the wider community. The Netball club organised and umpired all the fixtures, with support from Sussex Sport who ensured that the Sports Hall was available free of charge.
Jess Grigg, the main organiser of the event, said, ‘We had a great day running our annual charity tournament, this year supporting RISE. Through the community of our netball team, so many other societies, and the help of Sussex Sport, we managed to raise £917. It was a really enjoyable day, and I hope everyone had a lot of fun raising money for a great cause!’
Thank you to everyone who came along, competed and bought raffle tickets. Your contribution will make all the difference to a very worthwhile charity.
