Next week is summer graduation at the Brighton Centre, and the graduation team are putting final preparations in place for five days of celebrating the wonderful achievements of our students.
We have over 3,700 students attending and 12,600 guests coming to see their loved ones don their robes and take their turn crossing the stage to greet the Chancellor, Sanjeev Bhaskar. After everyone has walked, danced or glided across the stage, all students will stand to be congratulated, then join the usual post-ceremony drinks reception.
This year will be a bit different from normal as we won’t be handing out degree certificates at the ceremonies. This is because some of our students won’t have received their final degree results by graduation day, due to the ongoing national marking and assessment boycott. Finalists were given the option to attend a future graduation once they have their results, but most students are choosing to come along to celebrate with their fellow finalists, their families and their friends.
As usual our sparkling graduation ceremonies would not be possible without the hundreds of staff who volunteer their time to ensure everything runs smoothly. Thank you – our students really appreciate you being there to celebrate their time at Sussex with them.
If you can’t make it down to the Brighton Centre next week, remember you will be able to watch the livestreamed ceremonies on our website.
