Radhika Arora receiving the Global Academic Excellence award conferred upon Professor Sasha Roseneil
Last month, our Vice-Chancellor, Sasha Roseneil, took part in a panel discussion at the annual International Business Horizon (INBUSH) conference, organised by our partners at Amity University in Delhi, India.
The Vice-Chancellor participated online alongside representatives from other UK Universities to discuss the theme of “Impact of New Education Policy 2020 & Free Trade Agreement: Indo UK Bilateral Relations”. As part of her participation, Amity University also conferred their Global Academic Excellence award upon Sasha, received on her behalf by Radhika Arora from our University’s Delhi office.
Amity is a leading private higher education provider in India and has more than 100,000 students studying on its 250 programmes spread across 10 universities and 150 institutions. Amity University is a major feeder institution of the University of Sussex and, in June 2021, we entered into an agreement which formalises existing entry requirements for Amity University graduates to join Masters study here.
As part of her opening remarks to the panel, the Vice-Chancellor talked about her own research on friendship in relation to both Amity’s name as an institution, and the spirit of friendly co-operation with which Sussex will be approaching the opportunities created by the 2020 New Education Policy of the Indian government.
There are three key areas in which the goals of the new policy are particularly well-aligned with the University of Sussex ethos:
- inter-disciplinarity, which is a foundational part of our identity as an institution;
- an equitable and mutually beneficial approach to partnerships; and,
- ensuring that employability and entrepreneurship are embedded in the curriculum.
Following remarks from the panel, the Amity Group Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Gurinder Singh, proceeded to direct a range of questions from Amity students to members of the panel regarding their prospects for studying with UK institutions.
