Easing of Covid restrictions in England
On 5 July, the UK Prime Minister announced its intention to remove the current Covid restrictions in England on the 19 July.
The exact details will be confirmed by the Government on Monday 12 July. Currently, what this means for you as a student when you return to Sussex in September is:
- We are still expecting a return to in-person teaching in line with the Government guidance.
- Before the beginning of the Autumn term, we’ll be in touch to let you know of any Covid related guidance on what to do whilst on campus – and I want to assure you that student and staff health and safety will always be our number one priority.
- If you are an international student travelling from an Amber or Red list country who must quarantine when arriving in the UK, the University will provide a package of support for you. We’ll be in touch with more details about this soon.
Win a share of £20,000 by pitching for the planet
You could win a share of £20,000 in the University’s Pitch for the Planet: The Sustainable COVID Recovery Innovation Challenge by telling us about your sustainability idea. If your entry wins you’ll receive money and expert support to help make it a reality at Sussex.
Find out how to enter by reading this short news article - the deadline for entries is 10 am on Monday 19 July so don’t delay!
A message from the Chair of Council
Dame Denise Holt, is the University’s Chair of Council, and you can read her latest update to find out about the University’s newly launched sustainability strategy and key appointments including Professor Kevin Hylton, interim Pro Vice-Chancellor for Culture, Equality and Inclusion who is leading a wide range of University Inclusion and Diversity initiatives. Dame Denise also talks about how Council has discussed the best ways to reduce the awarding gap, experiences and outcomes particularly for black students at Sussex. You can read the update here.
Second dose Covid Vaccination survey
Many Sussex students received a Pfizer BioNTech Covid-19 vaccination on the 18 or 19 June at a pop-up vaccination clinic on campus. If you were one of these students, please let us know about your potential availability to get a second dose of the vaccine on campus over the summer.
All responses will be anonymous and will help our campus Health centre to develop second vaccination arrangements for students. You can find more information about Covid-19 vaccinations for students here.
Get money skills for life
Lastly, we’ve partnered with Blackbullion who are financial education specialists to offer their free online learning platform to help students with a range of financial subjects, including how to budget, deal with debt, entrepreneurship, how to avoid financial scams, enter competitions to win prizes and much more – more details can be found here.
With best wishes
