Annual software review

We're now finalising the software for student computers for the 2014-15 academic year.

We are arranging the licensing and funding for new items of software and starting to build and test the student desktop. The new version of software will then be available for checking by tutors, in preparation for deployment to student computers during the summer vacation.

Software on student computers 2014-15

Most of the software on student computers will remain the same as at present, although we will be upgrading to the most recent stable versions where appropriate.

  • Microsoft Office 2013
    (replacing Office 2010)
  • Wordsmith
  • OpenRefine
  • ACD Labs ChemSketch
  • Adobe DNG Converter
  • PollEverywhere
  • Corel Education Suite
    (including CorelDRAW, Corel Painter, VideoStudio, PaintShop Pro and PDF Fusion which will replace Nuance PDF Converter for manipulating PDF files)

Additional new programs for computers in Engineering (student computer rooms in Richmond and John Clifford West):

  • Atmel Studio
  • LASI
  • SignalHound
  • Microsoft Visual Studio
  • OpenCV

Withdrawn

    (including Movie Maker and Photo Gallery)
  • Nuance PDF Converter

Web browsers

As in 2013-14, there will be three web browsers available for students:

  • Internet Explorer 11
  • Firefox
  • Chrome
