Connecting to your Sussex email
There are two mail systems in use at Sussex:
Undergraduates and taught postgraduates
Most students use webmail for Sussex email. It is also possible to have email forwarded to a different account.
Staff and research postgraduates
A combined email and calendaring system. Most staff use Microsoft Outlook for email but can also log in to the Outlook Web App from any computer.
You can connect to your Sussex email using most email programs, including Outlook, Thunderbird and Apple Mail. Use the settings below to configure your preferred email program to read and send email with the Sussex email system.
The Sussex mail server settings at-a-glance
It should be possible to access the Sussex mail system using any compatible email client program. The basic settings are:
Incoming mail server
mail.sussex.ac.uk (for undergraduates and taught postgraduates)
imap.exchange.sussex.ac.uk (for staff and research postgraduates)
Outgoing mail server
smtp.sussex.ac.uk
Authentication
Username/password (using your Sussex login details)
Security
SSL or STARTTLS
