British Council UK-China PhD Placement Programme - Apply by 20th September

The British Council is currently advertising its UK-China PhD Placement Programme with a deadline of 12:00 noon on Tuesday 20th September.  The call is part of the UK’s Newton Fund programme which aims to promote economic development and alleviate poverty through science and innovation partnerships.

The scheme will fund placements of 3-12 months in China – either for UK doctoral researchers going to China or for Chinese students coming to the UK (but not Chinese students currently studying in the UK).  Applicants must find a host institution and a host supervisor in their target country and placements must start in 2017.

In order to be eligible your research must fit into one of the following areas:

  • Health and life sciences
  • Food and water security
  • Environmental technologies
  • Energy
  • Urbanisation
  • Education and creative economy for economic development and social welfare

In your application, you will need to explain how the research addressed by your doctorate may lead to positive impact on the lives of low income populations in the China and how it may contribute to the economic development and social welfare of the China.

You will also need to outline any plans to continue the collaboration between Sussex and the Chinese institution after the placement.

Sussex already has partnership agreements with Renmin University in Beijing, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Nanjing University, so it would be more practical to make use of these existing links.

Please contact Amanda Britt (Project Officer) in the Doctoral School if you wish to apply.
