Posted: Fri 9 May 2025, 11:16am.

IT Services will soon be running an important software update to fix known issues. Global Protect, the staff VPN, will be updated early morning on Wednesday 14 May (step 2 below).

To ensure this goes as smoothly as possible with little impact on your working day, please make sure your device has the latest updates and you have saved any files when you have finished working for the day on Monday 12 May (step 1 below).

Step 1 - Monday 12 May

Ensure that your university-supplied device is up to date.

Follow the steps below for your device type:

- Windows desktop PC users:

1. Sign out (press ctrl + alt + delete, then choose 'Sign Out').

2. Leave your computer turned on.

3. The security updates will apply automatically overnight.

4. Your computer will then go into sleep mode and you will be able to continue using it again in the morning.

- Windows laptop users:

1. Type 'Windows Update' in the search box at the bottom-left corner of your screen and hit Enter.

2. On the Windows Update screen, click 'Check for updates'.

3. After running the check your computer will either say;

a. Your computer is up to date, or;

b. Updates are waiting to be applied.

4. If there are updates waiting, save your work and restart your laptop to install the outstanding updates while connected to a power source.

- Apple Mac users:

If you have received prompts to install University updates, please apply these by Monday 12 May.

Step 2 - Wednesday 14 May

Before starting work you must restart your device to complete the Global Protect software update.
